Trips will go faster with entertainment - here are a few of our top travel products.
Take a book
Try some seasonal travel with a few holiday books. Four to eight year-olds will love
The Night Before Christmas Sticker Picture Book with reusable stickers. For activity books consider
The Everything Kids' Christmas Puzzle and Activity Book or
The New Jewish Holiday Activity Book. Both are packed full of puzzles, games and trivia you never knew you wanted to know…
Road movies for kids
If your children are lucky enough to have a DVD player in their car, purchasing a couple of family road movies might be just the ticket. Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey is a family favorite, as are Shrek and Monsters, Inc. To get in the Christmas spirit hark back to the classics: Miracle on 34th Street and It's a Wonderful Life.
If you're considering buying a portable DVD player check out the Audiovox 7" Ultra Slim Line from $98, or their 9" screen for $149.99. Sony, Polaroid and Panasonic all sell portable DVD players as well, that are slightly more expensive. Have a look at the choices on Amazon.com
Toys and games
Hasbro do a range of travel toys from $5.99, including Hungry Hungry Hippos and Trouble, both perfect travel games for ages 4+, Guess Who? Fun on the Run for ages 6+, and Blackjack Handheld Casino for ages 8+. Hasbro also sells a Scrabble Folio Edition for $14.99 if you're traveling with older children. Great word games for young and old are the iPlay Magnetic Word Bingo by International Playthings, and I Spy Word Scramble Game by Briarpatch. Check out Are We There Yet? a fantastic card game for the whole family for just $9.00. If you're traveling with an infant consider entertaining him with a Lamaze toy. Our favorite is Henry the Hippo. The Car Seat Activity Center will keep your children busy for hours. If that doesn't work and they'd rather draw, bring along a Lap Doodle Board. Kids can play act in the back seat as well, with a plush Doctor's Kit and Beauty Kit.
The ultimate car tidies
Just getting there is hard work – you don’t want to have to spend the hour after you arrive sweeping out crushed crayons and potato chips. These Side Rider pockets clip on to the side of any car seat. An organizer for the back of the seat is indispensable for toys and maps, whilst the kids will love a Snack and Play Travel Tray which acts as a little table for them to doodle on, and keeps crumbs from snacking to a minimum.
Happy driving, and don’t forget to ask your kids about the many, creative verses to ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ if the DVD breaks!
